There is no doubt that Rihanna is a style icon. Her bold choices and fantastic sense of style set her apart from most other celebrities today. Even so, the name Rihanna and the words "classic French fashion" are rarely associated with one another. Until now, that is. Last Friday WWD reported that Riri will be the new face of Dior's "Secret Garden" campaign and will star in the campaign video series.
This is huge news for a few reasons. First it is a major honor for everyone's favorite Barbadian singer and truly solidifies her status as a fashion icon. More importantly however, Rihanna will be the first black woman to star in a Dior campaign. Raf Simons, the head designer at Dior, has been under fire since taking the reigns of the fashion house for the major lack of diversity seen in his runways. In fact, he displayed seven collections before casting a black model to walk his runway. Hopefully his choice of Rihanna is a sign of more diverse choices to come.
Rihanna' campaign and video series was shot in Versailles by director Steven Klein and is set to run in Spring 2015. I'm sure I'm not the only one who can't wait to see how Klein and his colleagues mixed Dior's classically girly French style with Rihanna's edgy cool vibe.
