J.Crew is Affordable Again

J.Crew announced on Friday that it will be launching a new label at a price point between their regular line and their factory line. Hallelujah! J.Crew Mercantile, as it will be called, will be sold on the J.Crew Factory website for now with a brick-and-mortar store coming to Dallas, Texas later this month.

Over the past few years J.Crew has been receiving a lot of attention for it's rising prices and more adventurous designs, but not all the attention has been positive. Many longtime customers of the brand have been feeling alienated and were disappointed that J.Crew is moving seemingly further and further from its core customer base. What was once the go-to brand for good-quality, affordable basics is now a maze of hard to wear silhouettes and bizarrely high prices. And while the "fashion" crowd has been loving J.Crew's new bold designs, most of the public has not been too pleased.

Some of J.Crew's more editorial, less wearable looks of late.

Other than news of a store at the The Shops at Park Lane in Dallas and the promise that the line will focus on the basics that made people fall in love with J.Crew in the first place, little is known about J.Crew Mercantile and how it will differ from J.Crew Factory. Here's to hoping Mickey Drexler and Jenna Lyons let us in on some of their secrets soon!
