Christmas Countdown : 3 Days

With the end of the year inevitably comes end of the year parties. Unlike many other events you may have been to throughout the year (baby showers, birthdays, etc.), New Year's gives you an excuse to dress to the nines in outfits you might not otherwise choose. One of the best ways to add some extra festive flair to your holiday party looks is with luxe detailing. Sequins and faux fur and tulle, oh my!

Depending on your style or plans for the night, a sequin body suit may or may not be appropriate, but there are subtle ways to rock in the new year as well. Whether you want to have just a touch of shimmer, a splash of shine, or a full on disco ball effect, here are some New Year's pieces worthy of being the first thing you wear in 2015.

A Case for Capes

Step aside Superman, capes aren’t just for superheroes any more! Their ease and comfort make them the perfect option for combating the Polar Vortex that’s sweeping the nation. Having trouble fitting your chunky sweaters underneath that sleek coat you wore all fall long? Take a note from celebs like Karlie Kloss and Solange Knowles and embrace this old fashioned favorite.

Even if you’re not ready to splurge on the runway versions from designers like Ted Baker, Saint Laurent, and Valentino, there are always more budget friendly options from ASOS, Mango, and Zara to fall back on. And don’t be afraid to venture away from classic black wool. Plaid, red, knits, and blazer/cape hybrids are all just as chic and much less expected. So hang up those boring standard coats and save them for another time. Today you’re rocking the cape and the stylish super powers that come with it!

Thanksgiving Outfit : Take Four

Dinner with the family. You've been waiting for it all week. Maybe all month. The day has finally arrived. Now the only trick is to find an outfit that's grandmother approved, stylish, and leaves room for dessert.

There are a lot of ways to conceal your food-baby bump while still looking cute, but the two standouts of the season are oversized sweaters and loose-fitting dresses with fun details.

The best way to work your favorite oversized sweater is by pairing it with a more fitted bottom. Leggings, skinny pants, and fitted skirts all provide some well needed balance and prevent you from looking frumpy. The same goes for loose-fitting dresses. Look for options with dainty details and shorter hems to avoid looking like you're going to dinner in a nightgown or mumu.

To make yourself look extra long and lean, throw on a pair of pumps with a skinny heel. Now go get those seconds with pride!

Thirds and fourths are also acceptable. Lady Gray won't judge you. ;)
