It should come as no surprise that one of the most innovative shoe designers to date first made a name for himself as an architect. Over the past 15 years Julian Hakes has been designing buildings and bridges everywhere from Boston to Moscow, but the real reason we love him is because of his Mojito. Named for its resemblance to a curled slice of lime typically found in the cocktail of the same name, the Mojito shoe first made its debut at Swedish designer Ann Sofie Back’s Spring/Summer 2011 show for London Fashion Week. Since then Hakes and his shoe have been in high demand, with the Mojito finally becoming available for purchase in 2012. The daring design has no footplate and instead cradles the foot in a spiral of carbon fiber and leather lining. Hakes’ innovation and unique concept on the construction of footwear earned him the title of “Best Footwear Designer of the Year 2012.” Available in a variety of color combinations, the Mojito has definitely found a place on our holiday wish lists!
